Alton
The market town of Alton nestles in
a valley on the edge of the Hampshire downs, and is steeped in history, being
the home of both Oliver Cromwell (some of the fiercest battles in the civil
war took place here) and Jane Austen the famous authoress. The town is famous
for it's brewing industry, and the many visitors to the Watercress line (steam
railway which draws enthusiasts from all over the UK as well as overseas).

London Although well served by the A3, the most direct route is probably from the M3 motorway, to junction 5 (designated Hook) - from the slip road take the first exit (turn left) towards Odiham. At the first roundabout take the third exit (past a Q8 filling station) to the mini roundabout, take the first exit and drive up the hill (past a Texaco filling station on your right). At the next mini roundabout take the second exit and pass the Odiham RAF station (on your left). Keep on that road through South Wanborough village and enter the outskirts of Alton, at the mini roundabout take the first exit (A339) which will take you into the one way system in the town centre (then follow the office location on the Alton map) |
